India bound Honda Civic Patent Images Leaked
The Honda Civic was launched in 1972 and went on to become one of the most iconic and best selling cars from Honda. Honda launched the eighth generation Civic here in India in 2009 and it competed against the likes of the Toyota Corolla, Chevrolet Cruze and Volkswagen Jetta. The Honda Civic went on to sell in good numbers but as the market and the segment began to shrink, Honda decided to discontinue the model and in 2012, the Civic stopped rolling out of showrooms, much to the disappointment of many Indians.
The tenth generation Honda Civic was previewed as a concept at the 2015 New York Auto Show held recently. Now, the patent sketches of the production version of the car have been leaked online. The images show that the car retains the design of the Civic Concept, but in a less aggressive manner. The car gets LED headlamps including DRLs and has a more coupe like roofline.
The new Honda Civic will be powered by a new 1.5 litre Earth Dreams Vtec engine with direct injection. The engine will be mated to a six speed manual transmission or a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) automatic gearbox. On the equipment list, the new Civic will get lane departure warning, multi-angle rear view camera, and adaptive cruise control. The car will come in different body styles including the sedan, coupe and hatchback. The sporty variants like the Si and Type-R are also expected.
The car will be first released in North America later this year. This will be followed by a release in the Asian markets in 2016. With the Indian market slowly improving, we hope Honda decides to re-introduce the Civic here.
