Mahindra Bolero Continues To Top Charts
When the Bolero was launched back in 2000, the folks at Mahindra never imagined that it would go on to become one of India’s best selling SUVs. Every month it stumps the competition by making it into the top 10 vehicles sold every month. Most of the time, it is the only SUV in the list. Now, it has reached a new milestone. The Mahindra Bolero has retained the top spot for a massive nine years in a row. The company has also sold more than 1 lakh Boleros for the fourth consecutive year. These are very rare feats, if not unheard of.
The initial first generation model of the car was powered by a 2.5 litre diesel engine sourced from Peugeot which produces 65 BHP. During the facelift, Mahindra introduced an in house 2.5 litre m2DiCr diesel engine which makes 62 BHP and 195 Nm of torque. This is mated to a five speed manual transmission. An automatic variant is expected to be introduced when the next generation Bolero breaks cover. Both the BS-3 and BS-4 variants are available for the Mahindra Bolero.
Priced at 8 lakhs (ex-showroom, Bengaluru) got the ZLX model, the sales statistics show a steady rise in number of units sold every year. During its first two years, it sold just 8,824 units. In 2012, it sold 1,00,686 units and 1,17,665 in 2013. 2014 was another good year for the car. As of 2014, Mahindra have sold more than 7.5 lakh units of the Bolero. Industry experts are finding it tough to explain these sales figures. The Mahindra Bolero has a special connection with its customers that cannot be converted to words, but can only be experienced. It is for this reason only that it has been the best selling SUV and will remain a highly desirable vehicle for a long time and continue to break records.
