Mahindra Product Onslaught

The new Scorpio comes with an all new chassis

Mahindra has major plans and is launching a string of new products which they hope will help them get a better market share then they currently have. This onslaught was started by the new Mahindra Scorpio which was launched recently with an all new body-on-frame chassis. This new chassis can be easily altered for sub-four metre vehicles as well. This, therefore, will also be used in their new products which will include compact SUVs.

The next new car from Mahindra will be the facelifted XUV 500 which will come with few styling changes. The big new thing for this car will be a six speed automatic gearbox built by Aisin. The new XUV 500 is expected to be launched soon.

Mahindra is also readying a new Quanto which is due for release in a few months time. The design of the new Quanto will not be taken from any existing model and will have a more SUV type styling. It will also get new seats and more equipment. The new car will be more stiffer and lighter than the outgoing model thanks to the new chassis it takes from the new Scorpio. The powerhouse for the compact SUV will be the 1.5 litre, three cylinder diesel engine which currently does duty in the current Quanto. The Quanto will also get an automatic variant which will have the AMT gearbox.

Two other SUVs that Mahindra will launching are codenamed the U301 and S101. Both are expected to be launched this year. Rumours suggest that the U301 will be the new Bolero. A ladder-frame set up will underpin the car. It will be powered by the same 1.5 litre diesel engine that is present in the Quanto. This will be mated to a manual transmission as well as an AMT gearbox. Mahindra might also give it an AWD option. The S101 will be based on a monocoque architecture. This will be powered by a 1.2 litre diesel engine as well as a 1.2 litre petrol engine.

The design of the new Quanto will not be based on the Xylo
