Maruti Celerio ZXi AMT Launched
Last April, Maruti launched the Celerio with an AMT transmission. This car went on to change the Indian automobile industry. Maruti fitted the Celerio with the AMT (automated manual transmission) because it was the cheapest automatic transmission available. Its success has made many other manufacturers and take notice. Now, most cars come with automatic transmission and majority of them are available with the AMT gearbox. This has brought the ease of an automatic transmission within the reach of entry-level buyers.
For its first year anniversary, Maruti has given the fully loaded Celerio the AMT transmission. The Celerio was only available with the VXI and the LXi variant. The fully loaded ZXi variant with the AMT transmission, which has been sourced from Magneti Marelli, comes with keyless entry, tilt steering, an integrated audio system with USB and AUX with steering mounted controls, Bluetooth connectivity, electrically adjustable rear view mirrors with integrated turn indicators, rear wiper and washer, ABS and dual front airbags. On the outside, the Maruti Celerio ZXi AMT car looks just like its manual counterpart.
The Maruti Celerio is powered by a 1.0 liter engine producing 68 PS of power and 90 Nm of torque. The manual transmission returns an ARAI claimed figure of 23.1 km/litre. The automatic car is expected to cost a significant amount more than the manual. Maruti are also planning to bring in a Celerio diesel with a new 800cc diesel engine sometime soon. The claimed efficiency for this car is 30 km/litre.
