Renault Lodgy launched in India at Rs. 8.19 lakhs (ex-showroom New Delhi)
In 1984, Renault created a brand new market segment called the MPV with the release of their Espace, which is credited as being the world’s first MPV. The Espace went on to become a hit and is now one of the best-selling MPVs. The fifth generation of the car was recently unveiled. It is cited by motoring journalists as one of the best vehicles in its class. In India, which is a strong MPV market, Renault did not have any car to take on the Toyota Innova which is the country’s best selling MPV. All that is about to change as Renault has just launched its first MPV in India, the Lodgy.
The Renault Lodgy will come with one diesel engine in two states of tune. The more powerful version will have maximum power of 110 PS and a peak torque of 245 Nm at 1,750 rpm. The engine will be mated to a six speed transmission. The claimed fuel efficiency for this variant is 19.98 km/litre. The other variant on offer produces 85 PS of maximum power and a peak torque output of 200 Nm at 1,900 rpm. This is expected to return 21.04 kilometres per litre of fuel.
The Lodgy gets captain seats (in the seven seat configuration), a seven-inch touch-screen for the multimedia and navigation system, rear parking sensors and rear view camera with guidelines, a 12-volt charging socket on every row and day time running lights. With all seats up, the Lodgy has a boot space of 207 litres. On the safety front, the car gets ABS, EBD and brake assist, driver and passenger airbags and impact sensing auto door unlock. The accessory packs available include a chrome pack, an essential pack, a sport pack and a techno pack.
The Lodgy will be offered in seven variants with prices starting from Rs. 8.19 lakhs (ex-showroom, New Delhi) and it goes up to 11.79 lakhs (ex-showroom, New Delhi). Renault is offering a two-year or fifty thousand kilometres warranty with two years road side assistance and one year or ten thousand kilometres maintenance policy. Extended warranty is available. Renault is also increasing its presence in India by expanding to 205 facilities across the country through the year. With Renault promising a good handling MPV with adequate performance, the race for India’s best MPV just became hotter.
