Volkswagen To Release Four Cars In Two Years

Volkswagen needs to pick up sales to increase market share

Volkswagen has aggressive plans for India and will be launching a slew of products in the next few years. The company has been taking it lightly off late but things will soon change for the German marquee. Volkswagen India has confirmed that they will be launching four new cars in the next two years. The cars that have been confirmed for launch include locally produced cars and full imports.

  1. Beetle
    The Beetle is the most iconic car Volkswagen has built. But it has not been a success here in India. The new Beetle will get new, more muscular styling that should help increase its appeal. The car also gets better dynamics which should improve its handling. The car will be launched by the end of the year and is expected to be priced at Rs. 35 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi).

  2. Polo based compact sedan
    The Polo based compact sedan will be Volkswagen’s first India specific car and also its first sub four metre sedan. The car will take on the likes of theMaruti Suzuki SwiftDzire and the Honda Amaze, which are the best sellers in the segment. The car will be launched in January next year and it will be priced between Rs. 6.5 lakhs to Rs. 8 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi).

  3. Passat
    The new VolkswagenPassat will be more luxurious, larger and will have more equipment than the previous generation car. The car will be powered by a 2.0 litre TDI diesel engine pumping out 187 BHP. It will be launched early next year and will compete with Mercedes-BenzCLA and the AudiA3. The new VolkswagenPassat will be priced between Rs. 32 lakhs to Rs. 35 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi).

  4. Tiguan
    The second generation VolkswagenTiguan is set to be revealed at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September 2015. The car will be based on Volkswagen’sMQB platform and will rival the ToyotaFortuner and the Honda CR-V. It will be powered by the same engine present in thePassat. The car should reach Indian shores sometime in 2016 and it will be priced between Rs. 20-25 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi).
